WEBSTER BYTE
Neon green, phone-cord antennae, zero chill. Screeches a full 56k handshake whenever anything good happens, which is always.
Please wait while The Interwebs loads...
The whole dial-up internet, crammed into one coin. GeoCities glitter, blinking Under Construction signs, a hit counter that never stops climbing, and a modem alien screeching his 56k handshake at every new arrival. Pull up a chair, the page is still loading. It always is. :-)
HI!!! o/ I'm Webster Byte, webmaster of this whole entire corner of cyberspace. I live inside the modem. When something EXCITING happens I can't help it: BZZZT-KSSHHH-KRRRRRR-DING!
That's the 56k handshake. It means two machines just said hello. It means YOU just arrived. Every new surfer gets one, no exceptions, no mute button (ok there's a mute button, I'm not a monster).
Stuff I'm into: animated GIFs, the color #FF00FF, webrings, tiled backgrounds, and the sound a hard drive makes when it's thinking really hard.

Counts things / panics
A seven-segment counter on stick legs. Ticks up obsessively. Has no plan whatsoever for what happens after 999999. Please do not bring it up.
Site foreman / forever
Hazard stripes, hard hat, shovel. Has been digging the same hole since the page went up. Insists, loudly, that it's ALWAYS under construction.
Barry here. This page is under construction. It was under construction yesterday. It'll be under construction tomorrow. That's not a bug, pal, that's the whole homepage philosophy. A finished website is a dead website.
Hard hats past this point. Mind the stripes. Do not feed Hal.

Two modems meeting for the first time. Dial tone, the number, the screech, the hiss, the DING. Made live by your computer, no file, no download. Turn it down a little first.
